Madanapalle: In a crime that has sent shockwaves across the region, a seven-year-old girl was allegedly raped and murdered by her neighbour in Madanapalle, plunging the quiet town into grief and outrage.
The child went missing on Monday afternoon, triggering panic among family members who immediately filed a police complaint. What followed was a chilling discovery. Acting swiftly on CCTV footage, police traced the last known movements of the girl and conducted a search at the suspect’s house — located directly opposite the victim’s residence.
Inside the house, officers recovered the girl’s body concealed in a drum, a revelation that stunned the local community.
According to Kurnool Range DIG K. Praveen, preliminary medical findings confirmed drowning as the cause of death. Forensic examination also revealed clear signs of sexual assault, intensifying public anger.

Charges Filed Under POCSO
Police have formally registered a case of rape and murder against the accused under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The suspect has been taken into custody.
