Rohtak Police Solve 27-Year-Old HDFC Bank Employee Mahak’s Murder Within 18 Hours; Husband Confesses During Interrogation

Jhajjar: Slitting her throat and staging the crime as a robbery, a chartered accountant allegedly murdered his 27-year-old wife near Bahadurgarh in Jhajjar district, with police solving the case within 18 hours of the incident.

The accused, Anshul Dhawan, a resident of Hisar’s Sector 14, has been arrested as the prime suspect in the killing of his wife Mahak, who worked with HDFC Bank in Gurugram.

Murder Disguised as Robbery

According to investigators, Anshul initially claimed that unidentified attackers intercepted their car near Pahsaur village in the Badli area of Jhajjar district on February 15 night, killed his wife, and fled.

Police discovered Mahak’s body lying outside the car on a dirt track about 100 metres off the Jhajjar-Badli road. Her throat had been slit.

However, during questioning, Anshul’s account reportedly began to unravel. He failed to provide consistent details about the alleged attackers and repeatedly changed his statement.

Confession After Interrogation

During sustained interrogation and crime scene reconstruction, the accused allegedly confessed to the murder. Police said the couple, married on September 25, 2025, in an arranged alliance, frequently argued over his suspicions regarding her character.

On Valentine’s Day, the couple had visited Hisar and stayed with family. The following evening, they left Mahak’s parental home in Hansi for Gurugram. During the drive, the dispute allegedly escalated, leading Anshul to first strangle her and then slit her throat with a pair of scissors. Investigators believe he wore gloves to avoid leaving evidence and later staged the scene to resemble a robbery-cum-murder.

Mahak’s father, Krishna Kathuria, had expressed suspicion against his son-in-law from the outset. Family members also stated that Mahak was pregnant at the time of her death. Police have taken the accused into custody and further investigation is underway.
