Central Crime Branch Arrests Social Activist After Cyber Crime Complaint by Former MUDA Commissioner D B Natesh

Bengaluru: The Central Crime Branch (CCB) of Bengaluru Police has arrested Mysuru-based social activist Snehamayi Krishna on allegations of creating forged documents and uploading defamatory content targeting a senior Karnataka Administrative Service (KAS) officer on social media.

The case was registered at the Bengaluru City Cyber Crime Police Station on February 18 following a formal complaint lodged by D B Natesh, a senior KAS officer and former Commissioner of the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA). Acting on the complaint, investigators initiated a detailed digital probe, leading to Krishna’s arrest.

Allegations of Fabrication and Defamation

According to police sources, the accused allegedly created a fake document and an audio clip using photographs of the complainant and uploaded the material on her Facebook account. Investigators claim the content was designed to target the officer and spread defamatory propaganda.

In a statement issued by the office of Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh, officials confirmed that evidence was collected from both the complainant and social media platforms as part of the investigation.

“Digital evidence, including the disputed audio clip uploaded on Facebook, has been examined as part of the ongoing investigation,” the Commissioner’s office stated.

Search Operation and Seizure of Evidence

Following a court-issued search warrant, CCB officials conducted a search at the residence of the accused in Mysuru. During the operation, relevant documents and electronic devices were seized for forensic examination.

Police sources said that Snehamayi Krishna had earlier been issued a notice to appear for questioning. Subsequently, based on preliminary findings and evidence gathered, she was taken into custody and is currently being interrogated in connection with the case.

Investigation Underway

Officials have stated that further investigation is underway to determine the origin, authenticity and intent behind the alleged fabricated material. Authorities are also examining whether additional individuals were involved in the creation or circulation of the content.

The case highlights increasing concerns over the misuse of digital platforms for the dissemination of allegedly fabricated or defamatory information targeting public officials.
