Twin infants among victims as massive house fire erupts in Lisari Gate area; police confirm short circuit as preliminary cause

Meerut: A devastating fire accident in Meerut claimed the lives of six members of a family, including five children, after a blaze broke out in a residential house allegedly due to a short circuit, police officials confirmed on Monday. Among the deceased were twin infants aged less than six months, making the incident one of the most heartbreaking tragedies reported in the city in recent times.

According to initial information shared by the authorities, the fire broke out on Monday evening at the residence of Iqbal, located in the Lisari Gate area. Locals noticed thick smoke and towering flames and rushed to the spot after hearing distress cries from inside the house.

Fire Spread Rapidly, Family Trapped Inside
Officials said the fire originated on the ground floor and spread rapidly to the upper floors, leaving the family with little time to escape. Neighbours, with the help of emergency responders, managed to rescue the injured through the rooftop, following which they were rushed to a nearby hospital.

Despite medical intervention, all six victims succumbed to their injuries during treatment, hospital sources confirmed. The deceased include one woman and five children, officials added.

Police and Fire Officials Confirm Preliminary Cause
Fire brigade teams reached the scene promptly and brought the blaze under control after sustained efforts. Ayush Vikram Singh, SP City, confirmed that although the injured were shifted to hospital in critical condition, their lives could not be saved.

Senior police official Pandey stated that a short circuit or electrical appliance malfunction is suspected to be the cause of the fire, though a detailed forensic and electrical inspection is underway to establish the exact trigger.
“The fire appears to have been caused by an electrical short circuit. A detailed investigation is ongoing to confirm the exact sequence of events,” a senior police official said.
Investigation Underway, Area in Shock
Authorities have cordoned off the affected house and initiated a comprehensive investigation. The incident has sent shockwaves across the locality, with residents demanding stricter checks on electrical safety in densely populated residential areas.
