A Maruti car lost control near Appangala in Madikeri taluk and fell nearly 20 feet into a paddy field; despite the vehicle being mangled, both occupants survived without serious injuries
Kodagu: A terrifying road accident was reported from Kodagu district on Tuesday, where a car lost control and plunged nearly 20 feet off the road into a paddy field, triggering panic among locals. Though the vehicle was completely damaged, a mother and her son, who were travelling in the car, escaped unhurt in what locals described as a miracle, according to police and eyewitnesses.
Incident Near Appangala, Close to Madikeri
According to local sources and police officials, the incident occurred at Appangala, near Bettageri in Madikeri taluk. The vehicle involved was a Maruti car belonging to a local resident identified as Sagar. The car was travelling along the road when the driver suddenly lost control, causing the vehicle to overturn and fall into a paddy field located about 20 feet below the road level.
Vehicle Completely Mangled; Locals Rush to Rescue
Due to the impact of the fall, the Maruti car was badly mangled and crushed, raising fears about the condition of the occupants. On noticing the accident, local residents rushed to the spot without delay. The mother and son, who were trapped inside the wrecked vehicle and crying for help, were rescued safely after strenuous efforts by the locals.
Eyewitnesses said the condition of the car suggested little chance of survival, making the escape of the two occupants nothing short of miraculous.
Police Inspection and Safety Advisory
The accident falls under the jurisdiction of the Madikeri Rural Police Station. Police personnel visited the scene, conducted a spot inspection, and gathered preliminary information regarding the cause of the accident.
“Given the hilly terrain and narrow roads of Kodagu, drivers must remain extremely cautious, especially on curves and slopes,” a police official said, urging motorists to prioritise safety to prevent similar mishaps.
Local residents have once again stressed the need for careful and alert driving in Kodagu, a region known for its steep valleys, sharp bends, and unpredictable road conditions.
