Authorities give conflicting statements as Minority Residential School students disappear ahead of crucial SSLC examinations in Karnataka

Haveri: An alarming situation has emerged from Haveri district, where five SSLC students from a minority residential school have reportedly gone missing, allegedly after panicking over the upcoming board examinations. The incident comes at a sensitive time, with Second PUC exams beginning shortly, followed by SSLC examinations, triggering serious concern among parents and education authorities.

The students are enrolled at a Morarji Minority Residential School near Sunakalbidri village in Ranebennur taluk, a region under Ranebennur. According to preliminary information, the students were staying in the hostel when they allegedly went missing, reportedly due to fear linked to ongoing SSLC preparatory examinations.

Conflicting Statements Add to Mystery
The situation has become more complex due to contradictory claims from officials. While the school’s headmaster, Nagaraj, has asserted that the students have been traced and are safe, other authorities have provided unclear and evasive responses, stating that the children are “elsewhere” without confirming their exact location. This contradiction has intensified anxiety among families and local residents.

Minority Welfare Department officer Abdul Miraj acknowledged that there was no watchman on duty at the residential school on the night the students reportedly went missing. Officials have also confirmed that SSLC preparatory exams were underway, and early inputs suggest the students may have left the hostel due to exam-related stress.
“Preliminary information indicates the students may have run away, fearing the SSLC examinations. There was no night watchman at the hostel,” said a senior official from the Minority Welfare Department.
Search Operations Ongoing
Following the incident, the headmaster and school staff have initiated search efforts to trace the missing students. Authorities have stated that efforts are underway to verify the students’ whereabouts and ensure their safety, while further details are awaited.
