Chilli Powder Attack Leads to Cinematic‑Style Robbery in Kallambella; Four Accused Arrested, All Stolen Jewellery Recovered by Shira Police

Tumakuru: In a stunning daylight robbery near Bench Gate, Kallambella (SiraTaluk), a gang from Rajasthan threw chilli powder inside a jewellery store and stole ornaments and valuables worth approximately ₹26 lakh, law enforcement officials confirmed. The suspects were arrested within hours, and all stolen items were retrieved, police said.

Incident Overview
According to the official complaint filed at Kallambella Police Station, the four suspects, Aravind, Dungar Singh, Mahendra Singh, and Madhu Singh, entered the Jagatamba jewellery shop around midday in a Bolero SUV. Once inside, they allegedly threw chili powder at the shopkeeper and others present, temporarily blinding them and creating chaos.

The suspects then closed the shutter from the inside, grabbed jewelry including 100 grams of gold and about 1 kg of silver, and fled the scene. During the robbery, they also attacked the shop owner, Dinesh, and his elderly grandmother, injuring them before escaping.

Police Response and Arrests
Within minutes of receiving the alert, Sira police, led by DYSP Shekhar, launched a coordinated pursuit. “Based on the vehicle information and eyewitness accounts, we located the Bolero near the toll plaza,” an officer said. After a high‑speed chase, the suspects were cornered in the Huyulu forest area, arrested, and the stolen property was recovered intact.
“This was a well‑planned yet brazen daytime robbery, but swift police action ensured the safe recovery of all stolen items and the arrest of the accused,” said a senior police official.
Investigation and Charges
Police have registered multiple charges, including robbery, assault, and criminal conspiracy. Investigators are also examining whether the gang had committed similar robberies along highway jewellery outlets in the previous days.

Public Safety and Legal Proceedings
The arrested individuals are currently in police custody, and further interrogation is underway. Authorities have assured enhanced patrolling and surveillance along major commercial corridors to prevent similar incidents.
