New Delhi: Congress MLA Vinay Kulkarni has received temporary relief after the Supreme Court adjourned the hearing on an application seeking cancellation of his bail in the murder case of BJP leader Yogesh Gowda from Dharwad to October 27. The court decided to consolidate the applications and hear them together.
Kulkarni had approached the Supreme Court challenging the bail granted to him in the case. Additional Solicitor General SV Raju presented arguments on behalf of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), while senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi argued for Kulkarni.
Supreme Court Examines Evidence Tampering Case
During the hearing, the court was informed that Kulkarni’s bail had previously been cancelled over allegations of evidence tampering. The proceedings also involve a separate case concerning the destruction of evidence, in which the trial is ongoing.
The arguments referred to a four-year prison sentence in one case and a conviction in another. The court asked whether Kulkarni had been granted bail in the second case, and the government lawyer confirmed that he had.
Singhvi argued that the petition concerning the sentence should be heard and suggested that the related cases be considered together. The court agreed to consolidate the applications for a joint hearing.
October 27 Hearing to Cover Multiple Bail Applications
The Supreme Court has scheduled the next hearing for October 27 and directed the parties to file their affidavits three days in advance.
Inspector Channakeshava has been sentenced to seven years in prison, according to the information presented. Other accused have also filed applications seeking cancellation of bail, which the Supreme Court is expected to hear alongside the related applications.
