Nine people, including six women and three children, died after a speeding Bolero allegedly rammed a truck on the Nagpur-Raipur National Highway near Pimpalgaon in Maharashtra.
Bhandara: Nine people, including six women and three children, were killed in a road accident on the Nagpur-Raipur National Highway near Pimpalgaon in Maharashtra’s Bhandara district early Friday morning.
The accident occurred when a speeding Bolero allegedly rammed into the rear of a truck that was reportedly merging onto the highway from a roadside petrol pump.
Eight people died at the accident spot, while another person later succumbed to injuries during treatment, taking the death toll to nine.
Bolero Allegedly Crashes Into Truck Near Pimpalgaon
According to the information available, the truck was entering the highway from a roadside petrol pump when the speeding Bolero approached from behind.
The Bolero allegedly collided with the rear of the truck, resulting in a severe crash. The impact left several occupants trapped and caused multiple fatalities at the accident site.
Three Injured In Bhandara Road Accident
Three other people sustained serious injuries in the accident. They were immediately taken to the Sakoli Sub-District Hospital for medical treatment.
After receiving information about the crash, local residents and officials reached the spot and assisted in rescue operations. The bodies of those who died were recovered and shifted for further procedures.
One of the injured later succumbed to injuries during treatment, increasing the death toll to nine.
CCTV Footage Captures Bolero Before Crash
CCTV cameras installed near the highway reportedly captured visuals of the Bolero shortly before the accident.
The footage showed the vehicle travelling at high speed before the collision, according to the information available.
Police are examining the CCTV footage as part of the investigation and are working to establish the exact circumstances that led to the crash.
Police Investigate Fatal Highway Collision
Police have launched an investigation into the accident and are examining the movements of both vehicles before the collision.
The circumstances under which the truck entered the highway and the speed of the Bolero are among the factors being examined.
The accident also disrupted traffic movement in the area for some time as rescue, recovery and other emergency operations were carried out.
