Seven people were killed and 19 others injured after a truck collided with a tempo pickup on Maharashtra’s Samruddhi Highway near Dhamangaon Railway Station in Amravati district.


Amravati: Seven people were killed and 19 others injured after a truck collided with a tempo pickup on Maharashtra’s Samruddhi Highway in Amravati district on Thursday. The accident occurred near Dhamangaon Railway Station.


The tempo pickup was carrying devotees travelling from Shegaon, a renowned pilgrimage centre in Buldhana district, to Wardha with a Durga idol when it collided with the truck. The impact was severe, killing seven people on the spot.


The accident created panic in the area. Police soon reached the spot and, with the help of local residents, launched a rescue operation. The 19 injured people were rescued and taken to the local rural hospital for treatment.


Residents and some journalists also took part in the rescue efforts. Railway police reached the spot following the accident and joined the response.


Samruddhi Highway Accident Prompts Police Investigation

The exact reason behind the collision is not yet known. Police have launched an investigation to ascertain the cause of the accident and determine the circumstances that led to the crash. Further details about the victims are also being ascertained.

Senior police officer Niketan Kadam told Aaj Tak, India Today’s sister organisation, that four or five of the injured people were in critical condition, while the remaining injured were out of danger. All the injured were undergoing treatment.

Kadam, along with Dhamangaon Municipal Council President Archana Rothe, also reached the hospital and took stock of the condition of those undergoing treatment.


The collision has drawn attention to the safety of passengers travelling on the Samruddhi Highway. Police are continuing their probe into the accident, while further information about the deceased and injured is awaited.
