The body of 67-year-old Lakshmamma from Hirehallikoppalu village was found inside a plastic bag in the Hemavati canal near Bettadahalli. Police suspect murder and have registered a case.

Hassan: The body of a 67-year-old woman was found stuffed inside a plastic bag and dumped in the Hemavati canal in Hassan district, with police suspecting murder.


The deceased has been identified as Lakshmamma (67) from Hirehallikoppalu village in Arkalgud taluk. Police said she had been living in the village with her husband. According to police, Lakshmamma had left her home on October 3 for some work but did not return. Her family members subsequently began searching for her.


During the search, her body was found inside a plastic bag in the Hemavati canal near Bettadahalli village in Arkalgud taluk on Tuesday evening. After receiving information, police reached the spot, recovered the body and identified the deceased before informing her family members.


Police Suspect Murder In Hassan Woman’s Death

According to police, the preliminary investigation indicates that Lakshmamma may have been murdered before her body was placed inside a plastic bag and thrown into the canal.

Police are collecting information about where Lakshmamma went and whom she may have met after leaving her home.

Investigators are also examining whether the murder was committed with an intention to steal her gold ornaments or whether people known to Lakshmamma were involved in the crime.


Investigation Underway In Hemavati Canal Case

Hassan District Superintendent of Police Shubhanvita said a murder case has been registered in connection with the incident and the investigation is continuing.
