Bengaluru: A 40-year-old man identified as Manish was arrested by R.R. Nagar police for allegedly staging his own kidnapping and attempting to obtain Rs.90 lakh from his 62-year-old father, Manohar Patel.

According to police, Manish allegedly involved two friends in the plan and arranged for them to contact his father via WhatsApp using his own mobile number.

Bengaluru Kidnap Drama Involves Rs.90 Lakh Demand

According to the police investigation, Manish told his father he was travelling to Gadag by train for a financial transaction. He reportedly said that he would return or call the following morning.

The next morning, Manohar Patel received a call informing him that his son had allegedly been kidnapped. The callers reportedly claimed that Manish was in their custody and demanded Rs.90 lakh for his release.

Concerned about his son's safety, Manohar Patel immediately approached the police and reported the alleged kidnapping and the demand for money.

R.R. Nagar police began investigating the case and attempted to trace Manish's mobile phone to establish his location.

R.R. Nagar Police Track Calls To Hassan

During the initial investigation, police found that Manish's mobile phone had been switched off. Investigators subsequently examined other communications linked to the alleged kidnapping.

Police later received information about a call made from another number. The caller reportedly contacted the family and asked whether the demanded money had been arranged.

Investigators tracked the number used for the call and gathered information about the location from where the communication originated. The information led police towards the Hassan region.

Police Search Leads To Hassan

Based on the information obtained during the investigation, police teams conducted a search in the Hassan area.

During the operation, police found Manish staying in a room with two other men. According to police, all three were sleeping when the team reached the location.

The discovery raised questions about the alleged kidnapping, as Manish, who had reportedly been presented to his father as a kidnapped person, was found staying with the other two men.

Police Investigation Uncovers Alleged Fake Kidnapping Plan

Police questioned Manish and the two other men about the calls, the alleged Rs.90 lakh demand and their movements.

During questioning, investigators reportedly found that Manish had allegedly planned the kidnapping drama with assistance from the other two men to obtain money from his father.

The investigation indicated, according to police, that Manish had not been kidnapped and that the calls made to his father were allegedly part of a plan to create the impression that he was being held captive.

Police said Manish allegedly staged his own kidnapping and demanded Rs.90 lakh from his father with the assistance of two other men.

The use of Manish's own mobile number for the WhatsApp call and the subsequent tracking of another number helped police trace the people allegedly involved in the case.

The three accused were subsequently sent to Parappana Agrahara Central Prison, police said.
