Major Karnataka reservoirs continue to receive inflows, with KRS, Kabini, Hemavati, Almatti and Basavasagar recording water levels near their capacities
Karnataka’s major reservoirs continued to receive inflows on August 11, with KRS, Kabini, Hemavati, Almatti and Basavasagar recording substantial storage. Linganamakki also received inflows, while its current storage stood at 51.05% of capacity.
Bengaluru: Inflows into major reservoirs across Karnataka continued on Monday, with water levels recorded at KRS, Kabini, Hemavati, Almatti, Basavasagar and Linganamakki reservoirs. Several reservoirs in the state are recording levels close to their respective maximum capacities.
The KRS reservoir in Mandya district recorded a water level of 109.08 feet against its maximum level of 124.80 feet. The reservoir received an inflow of 8,357 cusecs, while 2,325 cusecs of water was released.
KRS has a maximum storage capacity of 49.452 TMC, of which 30.905 TMC was stored as of August 11.
KRS Reservoir Water Level Reaches 109.08 Feet
The Krishnaraja Sagar reservoir continues to receive water with inflows recorded at 8,357 cusecs. The current storage of 30.905 TMC represents the water available in the reservoir against its total capacity of 49.452 TMC.
The reservoir is located in Mandya district and has a maximum water level of 124.80 feet.
Kabini Reservoir Water Level Nears Maximum
The Kabini reservoir in Mysuru recorded a water level of 82.76 feet against its maximum level of 84 feet.
The reservoir currently holds 18.71 TMC of water, compared with its maximum storage capacity of 19.52 TMC. Inflow into Kabini was recorded at 9,660 cusecs, while 11,583 cusecs of water was being released into the river.
Water was not being released into the left and right bank canals at the time of the update. The basin area received 5 mm of rainfall.
Hemavati Reservoir Water Level and Storage
The Hemavati reservoir near Gorur in Hassan taluk recorded a water level of 2,915.43 feet. Its maximum level is given as 2,922 feet, with a storage capacity of 37 TMC.
The reservoir had 31.53 TMC of water in storage. The inflow was recorded at 3,117 cusecs, while 500 cusecs were being released from the reservoir. No water was being released into the canals at the time of the update.
The figures also show a difference compared with the corresponding date last year. On the same day last year, the reservoir had a water level of 2,921.95 feet and storage of 37.055 TMC.
At that time, the inflow was 7,398 cusecs, while 2,875 cusecs of water was released into the river. Another 4,800 cusecs was released into the canals.
Almatti Reservoir Water Level Nears Maximum
The Lal Bahadur Shastri Sagar reservoir near Almatti in Nidagundi taluk of Vijayapura district also recorded a water level close to its maximum.
The maximum water level of Almatti reservoir is 519.60 metres, while the level recorded on August 11 was 519.46 metres.
The reservoir received an inflow of 69,104 cusecs. Water was being released at a rate of 61,280 cusecs.
The figures indicate that the reservoir was 0.14 metres below its stated maximum water level at the time of the update.
Basavasagar Reservoir Receives 75,000 Cusecs Inflow
The Basavasagar reservoir near Narayanpur in Hunasagi taluk of Yadgir district also recorded a water level close to its maximum.
The maximum level of the reservoir is 492.25 metres, while the current water level was recorded at 492.22 metres. Basavasagar received an inflow of about 75,000 cusecs, while around 69,000 cusecs of water was being released.
The inflow and release figures indicate continued movement of water through the reservoir system in the region. Water levels in major reservoirs of North Karnataka were also recorded close to their respective maximum levels.
Linganamakki Reservoir Water Level Records Fresh Inflow
Water inflow also continued into the Linganamakki reservoir in Shivamogga district. The reservoir recorded a water level of 1,792.15 feet on August 11. Its water level increased by 0.60 feet over the previous 24 hours.
The current inflow into Linganamakki was recorded at 16,259 cusecs. Its water storage stood at 51.05% of the total capacity.
The figures differ from those recorded on the same day last year. At that time, the reservoir water level was 1,811.90 feet and storage stood at 84.78%.
The current data therefore shows a difference in both water level and storage compared with the corresponding period last year.
With inflows continuing into reservoirs across Karnataka, KRS, Kabini, Hemavati, Almatti and Basavasagar remain key reservoirs being monitored for their water levels, inflows and releases. Linganamakki is also receiving inflows, although its current storage percentage remains below the level recorded on the same date last year.
