Karnataka Bandh 2026: Bengaluru transport remains operational, but buses to Tamil Nadu are temporarily suspended as a precaution

Bengaluru: Public life and local transport services in Bengaluru began normally on Thursday despite the Karnataka bandh called over the Cauvery water dispute. However, bus services from Bengaluru to Tamil Nadu have been temporarily suspended as a precautionary measure following directions from the police.
The temporary suspension has affected passengers travelling from Bengaluru's Satellite Bus Station to several destinations in Tamil Nadu. Services to cities and towns including Ooty, Tiruvannamalai, Salem, Vellore, Kanchipuram, Tiruvallur, Cuddalore, Tiruttani, Chidambaram, Virudhachalam, Tirukkovilur and other locations have been disrupted.
Bus services to several destinations within Karnataka, however, have started operating normally.
Karnataka Bandh Affects Bengaluru-Tamil Nadu Bus Services
The Karnataka bandh has been called in connection with the Cauvery water dispute. Despite the bandh, Bengaluru did not witness a complete shutdown during the early hours of Thursday, with regular movement of people and vehicles continuing across the city.
As a precaution, buses travelling from Bengaluru towards Tamil Nadu have been temporarily stopped following police directions. The measure has affected passengers who had planned to travel across the state border.
The disruption is currently limited to services travelling towards Tamil Nadu, while buses operating to several destinations within Karnataka have resumed their regular operations.
KSRTC Bus Services Continue to Karnataka Destinations
Buses operated towards several Karnataka destinations have started running as usual. Services from Bengaluru to Mysuru, T. Narasipura, Hunsur, Ramanagara, Channapatna, Mandya, Srirangapatna, Maddur, Madikeri, Kushalnagar and Mangaluru have begun operating.
The continuation of these services indicates that the bandh has not resulted in a complete suspension of public transport in Bengaluru during the morning hours.
Passengers travelling within Karnataka have been able to access bus services, while those travelling towards Tamil Nadu have faced temporary disruption.

Bengaluru Airport Transport Remains Operational

Passengers had arrived at the airport amid uncertainty over whether cab services would be available because of the Karnataka bandh. However, cab services continued to operate at both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.
There was no reported change in the usual pickup and drop-off arrangements at the airport during the morning hours.
Police personnel have also been deployed at the airport as a precautionary measure in view of the bandh.
Karnataka Bandh Security Arrangements in Bengaluru
Police have increased security at key locations in Bengaluru as part of preventive measures related to the bandh. The temporary suspension of Tamil Nadu-bound bus services is also aimed at avoiding possible disruptions along the inter-state route.
While normal movement has continued across much of Bengaluru, passengers travelling between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu may face changes depending on the situation and further instructions from authorities.
The transport situation remains subject to security assessments and decisions by the police and transport authorities throughout the day.
