A Bengaluru woman has alleged harassment by her husband and in-laws, threats to her life and an eight-month delay in police action.

Bengaluru: A newly married woman in Bengaluru has alleged that her husband and his family subjected her to harassment after her marriage in June 2025. She has also alleged that her husband threatened her after she approached the police seeking action and compensation.
According to the complaint, the woman’s family provided dowry, including a car, at the time of her marriage to Sheikh Afran. She alleged that her husband told her on the first day of their marriage that he did not like her and subsequently subjected her to harassment.
The woman has further alleged that her husband was involved with another woman and that this was one of the reasons for the harassment she faced after the marriage.
She has also alleged that members of her husband’s family made her perform household work and subjected her to physical harassment.
Bengaluru Woman Alleges Harassment After Marriage
The woman has alleged that she was brought to her husband’s home after the marriage and was expected to carry out household responsibilities.
According to her complaint, she faced repeated harassment from her husband and his family. She has also alleged that members of the family forced her to massage them and subjected her to physical abuse. The woman alleged that hot water was poured on her hands during the alleged harassment.
Her family approached the police in November and filed a complaint concerning the alleged harassment. According to the complaint, the family alleged that the husband had threatened to leave the house if she did not comply with his demands.
The woman has now alleged that she has not received effective police action even after around eight months.
Woman Alleges Police Bribe Over Harassment Case
The woman and her family have also made allegations against a former officer of the South East Women's Police Station.
According to the allegations, the then police inspector allegedly demanded and accepted Rs. 1.2 lakh from the woman to register a case concerning the alleged harassment by her husband’s family.
The allegation concerns the conduct of the police officer and has not been established through an independent finding in the information provided. The woman’s family has also alleged that no effective action was taken against the accused despite the complaint.
Family Alleges Political Influence in Case
The woman’s family has further alleged that the accused had links to an influential minister and that this resulted in a lack of action against them.

The family has alleged that they have faced difficulties while approaching authorities to seek action over the alleged harassment and threats.
The woman has also alleged that her husband threatened her life after she filed a complaint and sought compensation.
