BMTC suspends Depot-43 conductor after a viral video prompts a departmental inquiry into alleged passenger assault

BMTC has suspended a Depot-43 conductor after a viral social media video showed an alleged assault on a passenger inside a bus operating on Route No. 258SD/1. The corporation has ordered a departmental inquiry, which will examine witness statements, CCTV footage, and other evidence before reaching a conclusion.

Bengaluru: The Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has suspended a conductor from Depot-43 after a video circulating on social media allegedly showed him pushing a passenger out of a bus and assaulting him. The corporation announced that a departmental inquiry has been initiated to examine the incident and determine the facts.

The action follows the circulation of a video shared across multiple social media platforms, including Kannada Dunia, which drew public attention to the alleged incident involving Mr Krishnamurthy (Badge No. 11503). According to BMTC, the conductor was on duty in Vehicle No. KA-57 F-1104 operating on Route No. 258SD/1 during the night halt shift on August 2, 2026.

"The concerned conductor has been placed under suspension pending departmental inquiry as a preliminary administrative measure to facilitate a fair and impartial investigation," BMTC said in its official statement.

BMTC Orders Departmental Inquiry Into Viral Video

BMTC stated that the suspension has been imposed without prejudice to the outcome of the inquiry and is intended to ensure an impartial investigation into the matter.

The corporation said the departmental inquiry will examine statements from the conductor, the passenger involved, eyewitnesses, available CCTV footage from the bus, and all other relevant evidence before any conclusion is reached.

Officials clarified that the inquiry aims to establish the sequence of events and determine whether the allegations made in the viral video are supported by evidence.

BMTC to Examine CCTV Footage and Witness Statements

As part of the investigation, BMTC will review CCTV recordings from the bus, where available, along with statements from those connected to the incident.

The corporation said all available material will be assessed before deciding on any further action against the employee.

"A comprehensive departmental inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the facts of the incident," the corporation stated.

BMTC Reiterates Passenger Safety and Conduct Policy

BMTC reiterated that it follows a zero-tolerance policy towards misconduct, discourteous behaviour, or any action that affects the dignity, safety, or rights of passengers.

The corporation stated that if the allegations are established during the inquiry, disciplinary proceedings will be initiated against the conductor in accordance with applicable service rules and regulations.

BMTC also acknowledged the concerns expressed by the public following the circulation of the video and said every such incident is treated seriously. The corporation added that it remains committed to ensuring passenger safety, maintaining courteous public transport services, and taking transparent and accountable action whenever complaints arise.
