In response to the changing weather conditions, the department has issued district-wise weather alerts, including a Red Alert for the coastal region and Yellow Alerts for several districts in North and South Interior Karnataka.
The alerts have been issued as a precautionary measure to minimise risks to public safety, particularly in flood-prone and landslide-vulnerable areas that could witness prolonged heavy rainfall.
Karnataka Rain Alert as Coastal Districts Face Heavy Downpour
According to the IMD, Karnataka's coastal districts are expected to receive very heavy rainfall, prompting the issuance of a Red Alert. Authorities have cautioned residents to remain vigilant as continuous rain could result in waterlogging, overflowing rivers, flash floods in low-lying areas, and an increased risk of landslides.
Officials have advised people living in vulnerable locations to closely monitor official weather updates and follow instructions issued by local administrations.

Yellow Alert Issued for Bengaluru and Several Interior Districts

- Shivamogga
- Chikkamagaluru
- Several other districts across North Interior Karnataka and South Interior Karnataka

Thunderstorms and Strong Winds Likely Across Karnataka
In addition to heavy rainfall, the IMD has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds with speeds of 30 to 40 kmph at several places across the state.
Although no immediate severe threat has been reported, meteorologists have advised residents to remain alert, as weather conditions can change rapidly during the active monsoon phase.
Authorities have urged the public to stay updated through official weather bulletins and avoid venturing outdoors during thunderstorms whenever possible.
