Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda said the final design of the Outer Ring Road redevelopment project will be prepared after consulting local residents and stakeholders
The Karnataka government will finalise the design for the comprehensive redevelopment of Bengaluru's Outer Ring Road (ORR) only after consulting local citizens and stakeholders. The proposed ₹400-450 crore project aims to improve road infrastructure while addressing the city's persistent traffic congestion through a carefully planned design.
Bengaluru: The Karnataka government will finalise the design of the Outer Ring Road (ORR) Comprehensive Development Project only after holding consultations with local residents and stakeholders, Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda announced on Thursday.
The minister made the announcement after inspecting the proposed redevelopment stretch from Lori Junction to Iblur Junction as part of the ambitious project covering the corridor from Silk Board Junction to Baiyyappanahalli Metro Station.
Bengaluru Outer Ring Road Redevelopment Project to Focus on Public Feedback
Speaking to the media following the site inspection, Krishna Byre Gowda said the government is committed to preparing a road design that reflects the needs of commuters, residents, businesses and institutions located along the busy ORR corridor.
He said the project would not move ahead with a final blueprint until detailed consultations are completed with local citizens.

The minister noted that the inspection provided officials with a clear understanding of the current condition of the road and the challenges that need to be addressed through the redevelopment project.
₹400–450 Crore ORR Development Project Planned in Bengaluru
Krishna Byre Gowda said Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar intends to reconstruct and comprehensively develop the Outer Ring Road at an estimated cost of ₹400–450 crore.
However, he stressed that solving Bengaluru's traffic congestion must remain a priority before implementing large-scale infrastructure improvements.
According to the minister, merely reconstructing the road without addressing traffic bottlenecks would not provide a long-term solution for commuters using one of Bengaluru's busiest corridors.
Traffic Congestion and Local Conditions to Shape ORR Design in Bengaluru
The minister pointed out that the Outer Ring Road passes through several high-density residential and commercial zones, including numerous apartment complexes, IT companies, office spaces and business establishments.
Given these conditions, officials will conduct a comprehensive study of local traffic patterns, accessibility requirements and surrounding infrastructure before preparing the final design.
The proposed road plan will incorporate these findings to ensure the upgraded corridor improves mobility while accommodating the area's growing urban demands.
"Considering the large number of apartments, companies and commercial activities along the Outer Ring Road, the local conditions must be studied comprehensively before finalising the design."
Road Design to Be Finalised After Site Assessment in Bengaluru
Krishna Byre Gowda said the site inspection from Lori Junction to Iblur Junction enabled officials to assess the overall condition of the road and identify key infrastructure requirements.
Based on these observations, engineers and planners will prepare a detailed design proposal, which will subsequently be presented to local citizens for consultation.
The development work will commence only after obtaining the necessary approvals and incorporating relevant public feedback into the final project design.

Several senior government and civic officials accompanied the minister during the inspection.
Those present included BBMP Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao, Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) Chairperson Manjula, Special Commissioner Nitish, Municipal Commissioners Ramesh D.S. and Ramesh K.N., Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Karthik Reddy, Additional Commissioner Lokhande Snehal Sudhakar, B-SMILE Technical Director B.S.
