South Western Railway train cancellations and diversions impact Mysore Talaguppa Express, Vande Bharat and Cauvery Express services due to major infrastructure works

South Western Railway has announced large-scale train cancellations, diversions, and route changes across Karnataka from June to August 2026 due to yard renovation at KSR Bengaluru and bridge works near Holenarasipur. Key services including Mysore–Talaguppa Express, Vande Bharat, and Cauvery Express are affected.

Bengaluru: The South Western Railway (SWR) zone has introduced significant changes to train operations across Karnataka following major infrastructure upgrades, including yard renovation works at Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna (KSR) Railway Station in Bengaluru and road underpass construction between Holenarasipur and Mavinakere stations.

The disruptions, effective from June 18 and extending through August, include full cancellations, partial suspensions, and route diversions of several important express and passenger trains, impacting daily commuters and long-distance travellers.

Mysore Talaguppa Express Cancellation Due to Holenarasipur Works

As part of the infrastructure development near Holenarasipur, train operations on select dates have been completely suspended.

The following services will remain cancelled:

  • Mysore–Talaguppa Express (16206)
  • Talaguppa–Mysore Express (16205)
  • Arasikere–Mysore Passenger (56267)

These cancellations are scheduled on June 18 and June 23 due to ongoing road underpass construction activities.

Passengers have been advised to make alternative travel arrangements in advance as no substitute services will operate on the affected routes during the cancellation window.

“Passengers are requested to plan their journey carefully and check updated schedules before travelling,” railway officials stated.

Mysore–Shivamogga Train Short-Term Route Changes

Several trains passing through Mysuru and central Karnataka will face partial cancellations and delays due to operational adjustments.

  • Mysore–Shivamogga Town Express (16225) will originate from Arasikere instead of Mysuru on June 18 and 23
  • Mysore–Yesvantpur Express (16208) will experience controlled movement with delays ranging from 30 to 120 minutes

These modifications are expected to affect passengers boarding from Mysuru, Hassan, and K.R. Nagar regions.

KSR Bengaluru Yard Renovation Impacts Vande Bharat and Cauvery Express

Major disruption is also expected at Bengaluru’s KSR Railway Station due to ongoing yard redevelopment works aimed at improving capacity and operational efficiency.

Key changes include:

  • Ernakulam–Bengaluru Vande Bharat Express (26652) will terminate at Krishnarajapuram (K.R. Puram) on July 31 and August 3 instead of KSR Bengaluru
  • Chennai–Bengaluru Lalbagh Express will be diverted via Baiyappanahalli to SMVT Bengaluru between July 31 and August 3

These changes will temporarily alter arrival and departure patterns for long-distance passengers travelling between Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu.

Major Train Cancellations in August Across Southern Corridor

Further cancellations have been announced for early August as part of continued infrastructure upgrades:

  • August 1: KSR Bengaluru–Chennai Superfast Express (12658) cancelled
  • August 2: Chennai–Bengaluru Superfast Express (12657) cancelled
  • August 2–3: Chennai–Ashokapuram Cauvery Express cancelled

Railway officials have stated that these cancellations are necessary to complete critical modernisation and safety enhancement works.

Railway Infrastructure Upgrade to Improve Long-Term Efficiency

According to South Western Railway authorities, the ongoing projects at KSR Bengaluru and Holenarasipur are aimed at strengthening rail capacity, improving safety standards, and ensuring smoother train operations in the future.

While the short-term disruptions are expected to affect thousands of passengers, officials have urged commuters to stay updated through official railway portals, mobile applications, and helpline services before undertaking any travel.

The railway administration has assured that the upgraded infrastructure will significantly improve train punctuality and service efficiency once the works are completed.
