Bengaluru Electrocution Death Raises Fresh Safety Concerns
The tragedy has once again brought attention to the recurring risks associated with electrical installations, maintenance work, and exposed power infrastructure, particularly during the monsoon season.
Experts have repeatedly emphasised the importance of following electrical safety protocols while carrying out excavation or installation work near transformers, power lines, and underground electrical infrastructure.
The latest incident adds to a series of fatal electrocution cases reported in Bengaluru and surrounding regions over the past few years.
Series of Electrocution Incidents Reported Across Bengaluru
Several fatal electrocution accidents have been reported recently, highlighting persistent concerns over electrical safety:
- June 27, 2026: A 70-year-old contract worker, Gurappa P., died after being electrocuted while excavating a pit for a metro lighting installation near Trinity Metro Station on M.G. Road.
- June 6, 2026: Bandaru Esudasu (28) lost his life after receiving an electric shock while carrying out maintenance on an 11kV power line near SBI Junction in Electronics City.

Bengaluru Electrical Safety Remains a Major Concern
Available data indicate that more than 700 people lost their lives due to accidental electrocution across BESCOM jurisdiction between 2015 and 2023, averaging nearly one death every three days.
Common causes identified in such incidents include:
- Snapped overhead conductors
- Faulty grounding and earthing
- Exposed live wires
- Unsafe electrical infrastructure
- Lack of adequate safety measures during maintenance work
Safety experts have repeatedly called for stricter inspections of electrical installations, improved maintenance of public infrastructure, and greater awareness among citizens undertaking work near power equipment.
"The latest tragedy once again underlines the need for stringent electrical safety measures, especially during the monsoon when the risk of electrocution increases significantly."
Authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding Satish's death to determine whether negligence or infrastructure-related failures contributed to the fatal accident.
