Ballari: Torrential monsoon rain battered Ballari over the weekend, causing widespread flooding, power disruptions and severe hardship for residents as large parts of the city remained submerged under rainwater. The downpour inundated the premises of VIMS Hospital and a major electricity distribution facility, while a separate incident involving the discovery of a woman's body has added to concerns amid the weather emergency.
Authorities are continuing relief operations as the city grapples with the aftermath of one of the season's heaviest rainfall events.
Ballari Rain Floods VIMS Hospital and Critical Infrastructure
Heavy rainfall that began on Saturday night and continued into Sunday led to extensive waterlogging across several low-lying areas of Ballari.
Among the worst-affected locations was the city's main electricity distribution centre, which supplies power to a significant portion of Ballari. Rainwater entered the premises and submerged critical infrastructure, including transformers and electrical regulation equipment.
As a precautionary measure, authorities suspended electricity supply across large sections of the city to prevent accidents and equipment damage.
Fire and emergency personnel worked through the night to remove accumulated water, though several areas remained flooded on Sunday.
VIMS Hospital Patients Face Difficult Conditions
The Vijayanagara Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS) Hospital also witnessed severe disruption after rainwater entered hospital wards through windows and open passageways.
Patients and their relatives reportedly faced considerable inconvenience as water accumulated inside sections of the hospital.
The incident has triggered criticism over inadequate drainage arrangements within the hospital complex, with visitors and patients questioning the preparedness of public infrastructure during the monsoon season.
Hospital authorities are expected to assess the extent of damage and implement corrective measures.

Ballari Woman Found Dead Near Flooded Handrala Stream
Amid the rain-related disruptions, police launched an investigation after the body of a woman was discovered near Handrala Halla in Ballari.
The deceased was identified as Anisha Fatima, 38, a resident of Kaul Bazaar and an employee of Pragati Krishna Gramin Bank.
According to preliminary information, she had reportedly attended a gathering organised by bank staff on Saturday evening and contacted her husband around 11 p.m.
Subsequently, family members were unable to reach her.
Investigators suspect that strong floodwaters may have swept away both the woman and her scooter as the stream overflowed following intense rainfall.
Police Probe Multiple Angles in Death Investigation
The circumstances surrounding the death remain under investigation.
Police officials noted that several aspects of the case are being examined to determine whether the incident was solely related to flooding or if other factors may have contributed.
