Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah says he will speak openly tomorrow after crucial Congress leadership discussions in Delhi
Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday broke his silence for the first time after holding marathon discussions with the Congress high command in New Delhi, stating that he would officially reveal all details regarding the political developments tomorrow.
The statement came amid growing speculation over a possible leadership transition in Karnataka following Siddaramaiah’s reported meeting with senior Congress leaders in Delhi on Tuesday.
Speaking briefly to reporters after attending the commemoration programme of former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru at Vidhana Soudha, Siddaramaiah avoided making any direct comments on the reported power-sharing discussions but hinted at a major announcement.
“I will openly speak about everything regarding my Delhi visit tomorrow,” Siddaramaiah told media representatives.
His remarks have further intensified political curiosity across Karnataka, where speculation continues over his possible resignation as Chief Minister under the Congress party’s internal power-sharing arrangement.
Siddaramaiah’s Body Language Sparks Political Speculation
Political observers closely tracked Siddaramaiah’s public appearance in Bengaluru after sources claimed that the Chief Minister had agreed to step down following a confidential one-on-one meeting with Rahul Gandhi in Delhi.
According to party insiders, Siddaramaiah’s demeanour during Wednesday’s public event appeared noticeably different from his usual energetic style, further fuelling rumours of an imminent leadership transition.
The Chief Minister reportedly arrived slowly at the venue and paid floral tributes to Jawaharlal Nehru in the presence of senior leaders including H. C. Mahadevappa, Zameer Ahmed Khan, MLA A. S. Ponnanna and Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh.
In another politically significant development, Siddaramaiah skipped a scheduled programme at the KPCC office and instead returned directly to his official residence ‘Kaveri’, a move that triggered fresh speculation within political circles.
Congress Leaders Rush to CM Residence
Soon after Siddaramaiah returned to his residence, several ministers and senior Congress leaders reportedly gathered there for closed-door consultations.
Those who visited the Chief Minister’s residence included ministers Santosh Lad and M. C. Sudhakar, senior Congress leader R. V. Deshpande, along with MLAs Yashwanth Rayagouda Patil, Shivalingegowda, Nagendra, K. Y. Nanjegowda and MLC Rajendra.
Sources indicated that Siddaramaiah briefed close aides about the discussions held with the Congress high command and the political circumstances surrounding the reported leadership transition.
The series of meetings has added further momentum to reports suggesting that the Congress leadership may soon implement the long-discussed Karnataka power-sharing formula.
JDS Leader GT Devegowda Meets Siddaramaiah
Meanwhile, senior JD(S) MLA G. T. Devegowda also met Siddaramaiah at his residence and later spoke briefly to reporters.
“I met Siddaramaiah for humanitarian reasons. He has been in politics for a long time and knows what decision to take. May his decision be good,” G.T. Devegowda said.
The statement has added to the growing political suspense surrounding Siddaramaiah’s expected announcement on Thursday.
With the entire state now closely watching developments in Bengaluru, attention remains focused on Siddaramaiah’s likely media conference after the luncheon programme tomorrow, where he is expected to clarify his political future.
