Four tourists from Haryana, including a woman, arrested after attacking HRTC Volvo driver on Shimla highway
Shimla: A shocking road rage incident in Himachal Pradesh’s capital Shimla led to the arrest of four tourists from Haryana after they allegedly assaulted a driver of the Himachal Road Transport Corporation following an overtaking dispute on the national highway.
Police identified the injured bus driver as Rajinder Singh, who was operating an HRTC Volvo bus traveling from Delhi to Rohru. The accused have been identified as Pratibha, Vicky Kumar, Vikas Kumar, and Pankaj, residents of Abhey Pur village in Haryana’s Panchkula district.
According to police officials, the violent altercation took place near the Kachi Ghati area in Shimla after the HRTC Volvo bus overtook two private vehicles carrying Haryana registration numbers.
Shimla Road Rage Incident Sparks Public Concern
Authorities said the situation escalated shortly after the bus overtook the vehicles on the highway stretch. The accused allegedly intercepted the bus and assaulted the driver during an argument linked to the overtaking incident.
The attack created panic among passengers traveling in the Volvo bus, while locals and bystanders reportedly intervened before police reached the spot.
Driver Rajinder Singh sustained injuries during the assault and was later provided medical assistance. Police officials confirmed that a case was immediately registered after receiving information about the incident.
“The accused were taken into custody soon after the complaint was lodged,” police officials stated during the preliminary investigation.
HRTC Driver Assault Case Leads to Arrest of Four Tourists
Police teams acted swiftly and arrested all four accused, including one woman, in connection with the attack. The case has triggered discussions over increasing incidents of highway aggression and road rage involving tourists in hill stations during the peak travel season.
Investigators are currently examining witness statements and reviewing available evidence related to the confrontation near Kachi Ghati.
The Himachal Road Transport Corporation operates several interstate Volvo services connecting Delhi and various parts of Himachal Pradesh, particularly during the busy tourist season when traffic volume increases significantly on mountain highways.
