More than 50 injured after deadly explosion derails train coaches and triggers massive fire in Balochistan
Islamabad: A devastating suicide bombing targeting a moving train in Quetta has killed at least 24 people and injured more than 50 others, according to preliminary reports from Pakistani authorities.
The outlawed Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that the explosion specifically targeted Pakistani military personnel travelling through the region.
The incident took place near Cheman Phatak in Balochistan province when the train was reportedly departing from the cantonment area.
Authorities stated that the suicide bomber detonated explosives close to the moving train, causing a massive blast that derailed multiple coaches and triggered a huge fire.
Quetta Train Blast Causes Massive Destruction
Eyewitnesses described scenes of panic and devastation immediately after the explosion.
According to local reports, the intensity of the blast shattered windows of nearby houses and set several vehicles parked near the railway tracks on fire.
Residents also reported hearing heavy gunfire in the aftermath of the explosion, creating further chaos in the surrounding area.
Emergency rescue teams, railway officials, police personnel and security forces rushed to the site soon after the attack to begin evacuation and rescue operations.
The injured victims were shifted to nearby hospitals, where several people are reportedly undergoing emergency treatment in critical condition.
“All necessary measures are being taken to control the situation and assist the injured,” officials stated.
BLA Claims Responsibility for Pakistan Train Attack
In a statement released after the incident, the Baloch Liberation Army claimed responsibility for carrying out the suicide bombing.
The banned militant organisation stated that the attack was aimed at Pakistani military personnel.
