Daily wage labourer from Belagavi seeks urgent financial help for her 11-year-old son, undergoing treatment at KIMS Hospital
Hubballi: A heartbreaking incident from Hubballi has drawn widespread attention after a mother reportedly sold her earrings to arrange money for the treatment of her critically ill 11-year-old son suffering from a serious bone marrow-related illness.
The emotional incident unfolded at Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences, where the child has been undergoing treatment. The mother, identified as Sunitha Kenchappanavar from Hooli village in Savadatti taluk of Belagavi district, is now struggling to save the life of her son Sagar amid severe financial hardship.
According to family members, Sagar was healthy during childhood but recently developed severe anaemia. Medical examinations later reportedly revealed that the boy was suffering from a bone marrow transplant-related condition requiring urgent advanced treatment.
Mother Sells Earrings After Doctors Estimate Rs 26 Lakh Treatment Cost
Sunitha and her husband, both daily wage labourers, reportedly visited several hospitals including government medical facilities in Bengaluru in search of affordable treatment options.
However, doctors allegedly informed the family that specialised treatment for the condition was unavailable in government hospitals and advised them to approach private medical institutions.
The family was reportedly told that the treatment could cost between Rs 20 lakh and Rs 26 lakh, an amount impossible for the labourer couple to arrange.
“Please save my son’s life,” the mother reportedly said in tears while seeking help for treatment expenses.
Despite the state government approving treatment support under the Arogya Bhagya Sanjeevini scheme, the family allegedly required an immediate amount of nearly Rs 2 lakh to begin treatment procedures.
To arrange emergency funds, Sunitha reportedly sold her earrings before bringing her son to Hubballi for further treatment.
Women’s Commission Chairperson Assures Financial Assistance
The emotional case reportedly came to the attention of Nagalakshmi Chowdhary during her visit to KIMS Hospital.
After hearing the mother’s struggle and reviewing the boy’s medical condition, Nagalakshmi reportedly assured the family that efforts would be made to provide the required financial assistance through the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
Officials stated that Sagar has been undergoing treatment at the hospital for the past several days while his parents continue seeking financial support for advanced medical care.
Appeal for Government Support in Child’s Treatment
The case has sparked emotional reactions from the public, with many people urging authorities and charitable organisations to extend immediate assistance to the struggling family.
Locals and social activists have appealed to the government to ensure timely treatment and financial aid for children suffering from life-threatening illnesses belonging to economically weaker families.
Further medical treatment for the child is expected to depend on availability of urgent financial support.
