Diplomatic sources claim intensive talks are underway for a possible phased ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah

Beirut: Fresh diplomatic efforts are reportedly underway to secure a complete ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel within the next 24 to 48 hours, according to diplomatic sources familiar with ongoing negotiations.

Sources told local media outlet MTV that Lebanon had received a proposal through its embassy in Washington regarding efforts to end the escalating conflict and move toward a broader ceasefire arrangement beginning around midnight between Saturday and Sunday.

The development comes amid growing international concern over rising tensions involving Hezbollah and continued military exchanges along the Lebanon-Israel border.

Lebanon and US Intensify Diplomatic Contacts

According to diplomatic sources, high-level contacts intensified throughout Saturday between Lebanese officials, the United States, Israel, and Hezbollah representatives.

The discussions reportedly involved Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, who is said to be playing a central role in communication efforts between the Lebanese government and Hezbollah.

Sources stated that Berri informed Joseph Aoun on Saturday evening that the ceasefire proposal appeared “serious,” while also expressing caution over Israel’s military actions in Gaza and southern Lebanon.

“Bring a complete ceasefire, and I’ll take care of the rest,” Berri reportedly stated during the discussions.

Diplomatic insiders added that Lebanese officials remain cautious due to concerns over implementation and long-term commitment to any agreement.

Phased Truce May Begin Before Full Ceasefire

Sources indicated that the ceasefire may initially begin through a gradual reduction in military strikes rather than an immediate formal declaration.

Under the reported proposal, Hezbollah may allegedly allow a short period of approximately two days for Israel to scale down operations before moving toward a full cessation of hostilities.

Officials involved in the negotiations are reportedly hoping that this “pilot phase” could establish conditions for a broader 45-day ceasefire framework.

Diplomatic sources further suggested that Hezbollah may adopt a principle of “reciprocity” if Israeli military actions decrease during the initial phase.

International Pressure May Have Influenced Talks

The report also indicated uncertainty regarding the origins of the latest ceasefire push.

Sources claimed the proposal could be linked either to direct Lebanese-Israeli discussions or to broader international pressure involving the United States, Saudi Arabia, and possibly Iran.

No official confirmation regarding the proposed ceasefire timeline has yet been issued by Israeli authorities, Hezbollah, or the Lebanese government.

The situation continues to be closely monitored amid fears of further regional escalation in the Middle East.
