Karnataka government released the 2026-27 academic calendar announcing school reopening dates, extended Dasara holidays and fresh enrolment guidelines
Bengaluru: The Government of Karnataka has officially announced the academic calendar for the 2026-27 educational year, bringing an end to summer vacation excitement for lakhs of students across the state. According to the newly released schedule, all government, aided, and unaided schools in Karnataka will reopen from May 29.
The announcement has become a major talking point among parents, students, and educational institutions as the calendar also includes a long 18-day Dasara holiday this year.
Karnataka Academic Calendar 2026 Announces Long Dasara Vacation
As per the official schedule, the first academic term will begin on May 29 and continue until October 2. Dasara holidays will commence from October 3, giving students an extended festive break of nearly 18 days.
The second academic term is scheduled to begin on October 22 and continue until April 2027, after which annual examinations will conclude the academic year.
The extended Dasara vacation has been welcomed by many students and parents, especially families planning festive travel and celebrations during the holiday season.
Karnataka Schools to Follow 245 Working Days
According to the academic calendar, the total number of working days in the year will be 245 out of 365 days. Out of these, 181 days have been specifically allocated for classroom teaching and academic instruction.
The remaining days will be reserved for extracurricular activities, sports events, cultural programs, and co-curricular learning initiatives aimed at overall student development.
The state government has also directed all schools to complete their admission processes before June 30 without delay.
Education Department Launches Campaign for School Dropouts
In another significant move, the Karnataka Education Department has announced a special statewide campaign to bring school dropout children back into the education system.
The initiative will target children between 6 and 18 years of age and will be implemented at district, taluk, and village levels across Karnataka.
Officials said the campaign aims to identify children who discontinued education midway and help them rejoin schools through re-enrolment drives and awareness programs.
The department believes the initiative will strengthen educational access and improve future opportunities for children who are currently outside the formal education system.
Karnataka Education Department Focuses on Student Enrolment and Attendance
Education authorities are expected to closely monitor attendance, admissions, and re-enrolment progress during the initial months of the new academic year.
With schools reopening soon after the summer break, institutions across Karnataka have already begun preparations related to classroom arrangements, teaching schedules, and student admissions.
The newly released calendar is expected to help schools streamline academic planning while ensuring balanced focus on education, extracurricular activities, and student welfare.
