Health Department confirms Ebola test negative after suspected case triggered alert in Bengaluru
Bengaluru: Karnataka received a major relief after the Ebola virus test report of a woman from Uganda, who had triggered a health scare in Bengaluru, returned negative.
The development has eased fears among the public and the state health authorities after concerns emerged over a possible Ebola infection involving the 28-year-old woman identified as Nagire Latifa from Kampala, Uganda.
Officials from the Karnataka Health and Family Welfare Department confirmed that the test results showed no trace of the deadly virus.
Bengaluru Ebola Scare Ends After Negative Test Result
According to officials, Nagire Latifa arrived in Bengaluru on May 23 and stayed at Royal Ace Boutique Hotel in the city.
Health authorities reportedly became alert after she displayed symptoms resembling those associated with Ebola virus infection. She was immediately shifted to an isolation facility through ambulance services as a precautionary measure.
Medical teams collected blood and other samples from the woman and sent them for advanced testing to a laboratory in Pune.
“The Ebola test report has returned negative, bringing major relief to the state health department,” officials stated.
Ugandan Woman Shifted From Isolation to Stable Condition
Authorities said the woman’s health condition is currently stable, and she has now been shifted from hospital isolation back to the hotel under observation.
However, officials confirmed that she will continue to remain under quarantine for 21 days as part of mandatory health monitoring protocols.
The Health Department stated that her condition will be continuously monitored during the quarantine period to ensure no fresh symptoms emerge.
If no symptoms are observed, she may be discharged from monitoring after completion of the quarantine duration.
Karnataka Health Department Maintains Vigilance
Officials clarified that if any symptoms reappear during the observation period, further testing could be conducted at the National Institute of Virology laboratory in Pune.
The suspected case had initially created anxiety among residents due to global concerns surrounding Ebola outbreaks in certain African regions.
Health authorities have nevertheless urged the public not to panic and assured them that all precautionary measures and surveillance systems remain active.
Public Health Monitoring Intensified After Ebola Alert
The incident has once again highlighted the importance of rapid screening, quarantine protocols, and emergency preparedness at international travel hubs like Bengaluru.
Medical experts noted that early detection and isolation procedures play a critical role in preventing the spread of highly infectious diseases.
The Karnataka Health Department continues to monitor international arrivals and maintain surveillance mechanisms as part of public health safety measures.
