18-year-old student who scored 92 per cent in PUC allegedly died by suicide while awaiting NEET results in Kalaburagi

Kalaburagi: A tragic incident has been reported from Kalaburagi where an 18-year-old NEET aspirant allegedly died by suicide while waiting for her examination results, raising fresh concerns over academic pressure and mental health among students preparing for competitive exams.

The deceased student has been identified as Bhagyashree, who had recently appeared for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) conducted earlier this month. The incident reportedly occurred in an apartment near Court Circle in the city.

According to preliminary police information, Bhagyashree had secured an impressive 92 percent in her second PUC examinations and reportedly aspired to pursue a medical career. Family members stated that she had high expectations regarding her future studies and had been eagerly awaiting her NEET results.

Police suspect that stress or anxiety related to examination performance may have contributed to the incident, though the exact reason behind the suicide is still under investigation.

Kalaburagi Student Death Raises Concern Over NEET Exam Pressure

Investigators said the student allegedly died by suicide at home when no other family members were present. The incident has left the family devastated and triggered renewed discussions about mental pressure faced by students preparing for highly competitive entrance examinations.

The student’s father, identified as Rajashekar, broke down emotionally while speaking to the media after the incident.

“There was no difference between my daughter and me. She was very good with the family. She scored 92 per cent in PUC, and now she has left us forever,” the grieving father said.

He further stated that the family does not intend to blame anyone or file allegations against any individual regarding the incident.

Police Register Case and Begin Investigation

Officials from Station Bazaar Police Station reached the scene after receiving information and initiated legal procedures.

Police confirmed that a case has been registered and further investigation is underway to determine the circumstances leading to the student’s death.

Authorities are expected to examine available evidence and speak with family members as part of the inquiry.

NEET Exam Stress and Student Mental Health UnAn der Spotlight

The incident has once again brought attention to the growing issue of academic stress, especially among students preparing for high-pressure competitive examinations such as NEET.

Mental health experts have repeatedly warned that fear of failure, performance pressure and uncertainty surrounding entrance exams can significantly impact students’ emotional well-being.

Education specialists and counsellors continue urging parents, institutions and coaching centres to prioritise emotional support and mental health awareness alongside academic performance.

If you or someone you know is struggling emotionally or having thoughts of self-harm, seeking immediate support from trusted family members, mental health professionals or helpline services can help.
