Police register dowry harassment case against constable, parents and another woman after 26-year-old dies in KR Puram quarters
Bengaluru: A shocking case has emerged from Bengaluru after the wife of a police constable allegedly died by suicide inside police quarters under the limits of KR Puram Police Station.
The deceased has been identified as Lakshmi Priya, 26, a native of Mysuru. Following a complaint filed by her father, Kumar Aaradhya, police have registered a dowry harassment case against constable Rajesh, his parents and another woman identified as Rekha.
According to police sources, Lakshmi Priya married Rajesh in 2023. Her family allegedly provided substantial dowry during the marriage, including 350 grams of gold, 1 kilogram of silver and various household items.
The couple also has an eight-month-old daughter.
Family Alleges Dowry Harassment and Mental Cruelty
In the complaint submitted to the police, Lakshmi Priya’s father alleged that his daughter was repeatedly harassed for dowry money after the marriage. He further claimed that she faced emotional distress and a lack of support even during her pregnancy period when she had returned to her parental home.
The complaint also alleged that Constable Rajesh was involved in an extramarital relationship with another woman named Rekha and that Lakshmi Priya was mentally harassed whenever she questioned him about it.
Police sources stated that before her death on May 22, Lakshmi Priya allegedly shared her WhatsApp password with her younger sister before switching off her phone.
Her father requested authorities to initiate strict legal action against Rajesh and his family members.
“A dowry harassment case has been registered and further investigation is underway,” police officials stated.
Police Investigating Suicide and Dowry Allegations
Officials confirmed that a case has been registered under dowry-related provisions based on the family’s complaint. However, investigators stated that preliminary findings have not yet conclusively established dowry harassment as the direct reason behind the suicide.
Police sources also clarified that allegations regarding the accused constable’s alleged extramarital affair are currently being verified as part of the investigation.
Authorities stated that the woman may have died following ongoing family disputes, though all angles are being examined carefully.
Investigators are expected to review digital evidence, statements from family members and other material linked to the case during the ongoing inquiry.
Dowry Harassment Cases Continue to Raise Concern
The incident has once again brought focus on dowry harassment allegations and mental health concerns linked to domestic disputes in India.
Despite strict anti-dowry laws, several cases involving alleged harassment, emotional abuse and suspicious deaths of married women continue to be reported from different parts of the country.
Police stated that the investigation remains active and further action will be taken based on the evidence collected.
