Simdega woman allegedly sold for Rs 3 lakh after being lured with fake job promise, police intensify human trafficking probe
Ranchi: A shocking human trafficking case has surfaced from Jharkhand after a 22-year-old woman from Simdega district, who was allegedly trafficked and sold in Rajasthan for Rs 3 lakh, was rescued by police following a prolonged operation.
According to officials, the young woman was allegedly lured with the promise of employment and taken to Delhi in 2023 by a man from a neighbouring village under the jurisdiction of Kurdeg Police Station in Simdega district.
Police said the accused initially arranged work for the victim as a domestic helper through a placement agency in Delhi. However, within days of joining the household, the woman reportedly fled from the residence under suspicious circumstances.
Jharkhand Human Trafficking Case Sparks Outrage
Deputy Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) Ranvir Singh confirmed that investigators later discovered the woman had been trafficked further and allegedly sold in Rajasthan for Rs 3 lakh.
The case came to light after local authorities received crucial inputs regarding her whereabouts, prompting a coordinated rescue mission by the Jharkhand Police. Officials traced the victim and safely rescued her from Rajasthan before bringing her back to Jharkhand.
Police sources stated that the woman is currently undergoing counselling and medical assistance while investigators record her detailed statement.
“The victim was rescued safely, and further investigation is underway to identify everyone involved in the trafficking network,” an official said.
Fake Job Promise Led Simdega Woman Into Trafficking Network
Investigators suspect that the accused used fake employment opportunities as a trap to target vulnerable women from rural areas. Authorities are now examining whether a larger interstate trafficking racket operated through placement agencies in Delhi and Rajasthan.
Officials revealed that the accused man belonged to a nearby village in Simdega district and had gained the trust of the victim’s family before taking her away.
Police teams are also verifying financial transactions and communication records connected to the alleged sale of the woman.
Jharkhand Police Intensify Investigation Into Interstate Trafficking
The rescue has intensified concerns over the growing number of human trafficking cases involving women from economically weaker regions being transported across states under false promises of jobs and better livelihoods.
Jharkhand Police have launched a wider investigation to identify agents, middlemen, and possible trafficking syndicates linked to the case. Authorities said strict legal action will be initiated against all those found involved.
