Senior BJP leader and retired Major General dies after prolonged illness at Dehradun hospital
Dehradun: Former Uttarakhand Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri, popularly known as B. C. Khanduri, passed away on Monday after a prolonged illness. He breathed his last at Max Hospital in Dehradun.
Khanduri, a retired Major General of the Indian Army, was widely recognised for his disciplined leadership and anti-corruption initiatives during his tenure in Uttarakhand politics.
After retiring from the Indian Army as a Major General, B. C. Khanduri entered public life and later emerged as one of the prominent leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Uttarakhand.
B C Khanduri Political Career
Khanduri served two terms as the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand from 2007 to 2009 and again from 2011 to 2012. During his leadership, he became known for taking strict action against corruption and promoting transparent governance in the state.
Political observers often credited him with introducing disciplined administrative practices and strengthening accountability mechanisms in the government system.
Apart from his political career, Khanduri was respected for his military background and commitment to public service.
Pushkar Singh Dhami Condoles Death
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed deep grief over Khanduri’s demise and termed it an irreparable loss to national politics.
“General Khanduri’s service, discipline and dedication towards the nation were unparalleled. His life remained devoted to national interest and public service,” Dhami said while paying tribute.
The Chief Minister also recalled Khanduri’s contribution both as an Army officer and as a public representative, stating that his legacy of honesty and disciplined governance would continue to inspire future generations.
Several BJP leaders, political figures and supporters paid tribute to the veteran leader following the news of his death.
