Dharwad: In a chilling case that has shocked Karnataka, a 39-year-old Buddhist monk of Tibetan origin was brutally murdered and his body dumped near the Haliyal underpass on the Dharwad bypass in Hubballi. The Dharwad Rural Police have cracked the case and arrested three accused, bringing clarity to a crime that initially raised multiple unanswered questions.
The victim has been identified as Tashi Daundup, who was allegedly kidnapped from Kolhapur in Maharashtra by a group of men who suspected he was carrying a large amount of money.
When the victim failed to provide any cash, he was mercilessly assaulted and ultimately kicked to death. The accused then transported the body and dumped it near the Haliyal underpass on April 29 before fleeing the scene.
“The victim was targeted based on suspicion of carrying money and was killed when he could not meet the demands,” police sources revealed.
Police identified that the accused had stopped at a fuel station to obtain LPG while transporting the body. Footage from the location captured their movements, helping investigators trace and identify the suspects.
A total of eight police teams were formed under the leadership of Superintendent of Police Gunjan Arya and CPI Shivanand Kamatgi to track down the culprits.
While three accused are now in custody, police stated that the vehicle used in the crime and two other suspects are still missing, and efforts are underway to trace them.
