CNG prices have increased again within 48 hours, adding fresh pressure on auto and taxi drivers across major Indian cities
New Delhi: In another blow to public transport operators, the central government has increased Compressed Natural Gas prices by Rs 1 per kilogram, marking the second hike in just 48 hours. The latest revision has pushed CNG prices in the national capital to Rs. 80.09 per kg, raising concerns among auto-rickshaw and taxi drivers who depend heavily on gas-powered vehicles for their daily income.
According to government-linked fuel retailers, the latest increase follows an earlier Rs. 2-per-kg hike announced just two days ago. With the fresh revision, CNG prices have now climbed sharply across several metropolitan cities, impacting thousands of commercial vehicle operators.
Current CNG prices in key cities include:
  1. Bengaluru – Rs. 90 per kg
  2. New Delhi – Rs. 80.09 per kg
  3. Noida – Rs. 80.09 per kg
  4. Gurugram – Rs. 84.12 per kg
  5. Mumbai – Rs. 84 per kg
Why CNG Prices Are Rising
Officials from state-run oil marketing companies said the revision was necessary to offset rising input costs caused by fluctuations in the global energy market. Industry sources indicate that international fuel volatility continues to affect domestic pricing, though current hikes reportedly reflect only a partial pass-through of global cost pressures.
Auto and Taxi Drivers Face Financial Pressure
The repeated increase has triggered concern among auto-rickshaw unions and taxi operators across India. Drivers say profit margins are shrinking rapidly as fuel expenses continue to rise while passenger fares remain largely unchanged.
In Bengaluru, auto driver associations have already submitted representations to district authorities, demanding revision of meter fares to help offset operational losses.
Transport Sector May See Fare Revision
Industry observers believe that if fuel prices continue to climb, fare revisions for city transport services could become unavoidable in the coming weeks. Commuters in major cities may soon feel the ripple effect of the latest fuel price hike.
