Chicken rates fall significantly in Hyderabad, Guntur, Khammam and Rajahmundry, bringing relief to non-vegetarian consumers
Hyderabad: In a major relief for non-vegetarian consumers across the Telugu states, chicken prices have witnessed a sharp decline after soaring dramatically over the past week. The sudden fall in rates has once again increased customer rush at chicken shops in several cities, especially in Hyderabad and parts of Andhra Pradesh.
Until recently, chicken prices had surged between Rs 300 and Rs 350 per kilogram in many markets, forcing several consumers to either reduce consumption or shift towards alternatives such as mutton and fish. However, traders now say the market has begun stabilizing with prices dropping considerably in multiple districts.
Chicken Price Drop Brings Relief to Consumers
According to traders and poultry sellers, the reduction in chicken prices has revived customer demand after days of sluggish sales caused by unusually high rates.
In many areas, consumers had reportedly avoided purchasing chicken due to the sharp rise in prices, as rates had almost approached mutton prices in some markets.
With the latest correction in rates, chicken shops across major towns and cities are once again witnessing heavy footfall from customers.
“Customers have started returning to chicken shops after prices dropped significantly compared to last week,” local poultry traders stated.
Summer Season and Market Changes Affect Chicken Rates
Traditionally, chicken prices tend to decline during peak summer months due to concerns over poultry survival in extreme heat conditions. Poultry farm owners usually sell stock at lower prices to avoid losses caused by heat-related bird deaths.
Apart from supply concerns, consumer demand also generally weakens during summer because many people believe excessive chicken consumption may lead to body heat and seasonal health discomfort.
However, traders noted that this year witnessed an unusual trend, with chicken prices rising sharply despite the summer season. Industry sources believe supply fluctuations and increased operational costs contributed to the temporary surge.
Now, with weather conditions gradually changing and supply stabilising, market prices have reportedly started cooling down once again.
