Commissioner K N Ramesh inspects renovation plans, parking expansion and administrative infrastructure at Jayanagar Shopping Complex

Bengaluru: The Bengaluru South City Corporation has initiated plans for a major infrastructure upgrade at the iconic Jayanagar Shopping Complex, with focus on comprehensive renovation, parking expansion and development of administrative facilities within the commercial hub.

Corporation Commissioner K. N. Ramesh conducted a detailed inspection of the shopping complex on Thursday morning and reviewed multiple proposals aimed at modernising the decades-old commercial structure.

Officials said the inspection primarily focused on improving public amenities, strengthening parking infrastructure and enhancing commercial utility inside the shopping complex premises.

Jayanagar Shopping Complex Parking System Upgrade

During the inspection, the Commissioner held discussions with officials regarding the persistent parking issues faced by visitors and traders at the complex.

Authorities were directed to examine the feasibility of converting the entire basement area into a dedicated vehicle parking facility to improve traffic movement and reduce congestion in and around the market premises.

Officials are also expected to prepare plans for establishing a more organised and technologically upgraded parking management system within the shopping complex.

“A permanent and systematic solution must be developed to address parking difficulties faced by the public,” officials stated during the inspection.

Commercial Renovation Planned for Old Block

The Commissioner instructed engineering officials to prepare an action plan for complete renovation of the second, third and fourth floors of the old block of the shopping complex.

Authorities aim to redesign these floors to support modern commercial activities and improve overall infrastructure standards at the market.

Officials said the redevelopment plan is expected to enhance business opportunities while improving the usability of vacant or underutilised spaces within the complex.

Bengaluru South City Corporation Offices May Shift to Complex

During the site visit, Commissioner Ramesh also reviewed the possibility of allocating portions of the renovated building for key administrative offices and operational activities of the Bengaluru South City Corporation.

The proposal is expected to improve administrative coordination and optimise the utilisation of corporation-owned infrastructure in the city.

Public Grievances and Footpath Encroachment Clearance

The Commissioner also interacted with members of the public during the inspection and listened to complaints regarding encroachments and pedestrian inconvenience around the shopping complex.

Officials were instructed to immediately prioritise footpath clearance operations and improve cleanliness around pedestrian walkways surrounding the commercial hub.

Senior officials including Chief Engineer Basavaraj Kabade, Executive Engineers Mahantesh and Hariprasad, along with other corporation officials, were present during the inspection.
