Police arrest accused after prank over missing mobile phone allegedly escalated into fatal stabbing in Bengaluru’s Marathahalli area
Bengaluru: A shocking incident in Bengaluru has revealed how a seemingly harmless prank between two friends turned into a tragic murder. A dispute over a hidden mobile phone allegedly escalated into a violent confrontation, resulting in the death of a man in the Marathahalli area of the city.
Police have arrested the accused, identified as Ramu, in connection with the murder of his friend Parashuram. Investigators said the accused initially believed the incident was only a minor fight and reportedly did not realise that his friend had died due to the injuries sustained during the altercation.
According to police sources, the incident took place after Parashuram visited Ramu’s residence in Marathahalli village following work. During the visit, Parashuram reportedly left his mobile phone inside the house before going to the bathroom. When he returned, the phone was missing.
Police said Ramu had allegedly hidden the mobile phone as a prank and continued pretending that he knew nothing about it despite repeated requests from Parashuram to return the device.
Marathahalli Murder Case Triggered By Mobile Phone Dispute
What reportedly began as a casual joke soon intensified into a heated argument. Police said Parashuram became angry after Ramu refused to hand over the phone despite repeated pleas.
During the confrontation, the two allegedly engaged in a physical fight. Investigators stated that Ramu later entered the kitchen, picked up a knife, and attacked Parashuram during the argument.
According to police, the accused allegedly stabbed Parashuram before fleeing from the house while still carrying the victim’s mobile phone.
“I only caused a small injury. I never thought he would die,” the accused reportedly told police during interrogation.
Accused Unaware Friend Had Died
During questioning by police, Ramu reportedly claimed he believed the fight was minor and that Parashuram would recover. Investigators said the accused even attempted to search for his friend later, unaware that the injuries had turned fatal.
Police stated that when Ramu later visited Parashuram’s room and found it locked, he reportedly became suspicious but still did not realize that his friend had died due to severe blood loss.
Doctors later confirmed that Parashuram succumbed to excessive bleeding caused by the stab injuries.
Bengaluru Police Arrest Accused In Murder Case
The Marathahalli police launched an investigation immediately after receiving information about the incident. Based on evidence and interrogation, the accused was arrested and booked under relevant sections related to murder.
