A young electricity worker dies, and another suffers injuries during power pole installation work in Bengaluru North taluk
Bengaluru: A tragic electrical accident claimed the life of a young lineman assistant and left another seriously injured during electricity pole installation work at Kukkanahalli in Bengaluru North taluk on Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as Annappa, 28, a native of Chikkajambur village in Shikaripura taluk. The injured worker has been identified as Anil, who is currently undergoing treatment following the electrocution incident.
According to preliminary information, the accident occurred while workers were installing a new electric pole and pulling electrical cables in the area. During the operation, both workers reportedly came into contact with live electric lines, resulting in a severe electric shock.
“The incident occurred during electric pole installation work. A case has been registered and further investigation is underway,” police sources said.
Bengaluru Electric Accident During Pole Installation Work
Sources said Annappa and Anil had been working as lineman assistants under contractor Ranganath for nearly eight years. Locals rushed to help after the workers collapsed due to the electric shock.
Annappa sustained critical injuries in the incident and died shortly after. His body was later shifted to the mortuary at Nelamangala Government Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Madanayakanahalli Police Register Case
Police officials from the Madanayakanahalli Police Station visited the accident site and initiated an investigation into possible negligence and safety lapses during the electrical work.
Authorities are also expected to examine whether proper safety measures and protective equipment were provided to the workers before the operation began.
Electrical Safety Concerns Rise in Bengaluru
The incident has once again raised serious concerns over worker safety during electrical infrastructure works across Bengaluru and surrounding areas. Residents and labour rights activists have demanded stricter safety protocols for linemen and contract workers engaged in high-risk electricity maintenance operations.
Further investigation into the exact cause of the accident is currently underway.
