Ballia: A court in Uttar Pradesh’s Ballia district has sentenced seven individuals, including six members of the same family, to life imprisonment in connection with a 2020 murder case linked to a long-standing enmity. The verdict was delivered by the district and sessions court after hearing evidence and the prosecution's arguments related to the fatal attack on a local resident.
According to prosecution officials, the convicted individuals were found guilty in the murder of Surendra Nath Pandey, who was attacked in Tandwa village under the Pakri police station limits on April 30, 2020.
Anil Kumar Jha delivered the judgment on Friday, convicting all seven accused and imposing life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 1,51,000 on each of them.
Ballia Court Convicts Seven In 2020 Murder Case
Government advocate Sanjeev Singh stated that the convicted individuals include Ajay Tiwari, his sons Alok and Abhay, his brothers Uday Narayan Tiwari, Manish Tiwari, Amit Tiwari, and another accused identified as Subhash Jaiswal.
According to the prosecution, the attack took place when Surendra Nath Pandey was returning home from his agricultural fields in Tandwa village on the morning of April 30, 2020.
Officials stated that the accused allegedly assaulted him due to an old rivalry. When the victim raised an alarm during the attack, Jay Prakash Pandey and Dharmendra Kumar Pandey reportedly rushed to rescue him but were also assaulted by the accused.
“The court found all seven accused guilty based on evidence presented during the trial,” prosecution officials stated.
Surendra Nath Pandey Died During Attack
Police records revealed that Surendra Nath Pandey succumbed to injuries sustained during the assault, while the two men who attempted to rescue him suffered injuries in the incident.
Following the murder, the victim’s son lodged a formal complaint with police, based on which a criminal case was registered against all seven accused.
Investigators later filed a detailed charge sheet in court after completing the probe and collecting witness statements and supporting evidence.
Life Imprisonment Ordered By Ballia District Court
The verdict is being viewed as a significant development in the years-long legal proceedings related to the 2020 murder case. Legal officials stated that the court considered the evidence and testimonies presented during the trial before delivering the sentence.
The judgment has drawn attention in Ballia district, where the murder had earlier created tension due to the involvement of multiple members of the same family.
Authorities stated that the convicted individuals will continue to remain in judicial custody following the sentencing order.
