Emergency childbirth at Bisi Road railway station shocks passengers as women commuters step up, ensuring safe delivery amid critical conditions
Bantwal: In a startling yet inspiring incident, a pregnant woman delivered a baby boy inside a train compartment at Bisi Road railway station in Bantwal on Sunday night, with the help of fellow passengers who acted swiftly during the emergency.
The incident unfolded when the woman, identified as Ponnamma, a resident of Savanur in Mysuru district, began experiencing severe labour pain shortly after boarding the train from Mangaluru. As her condition rapidly worsened, panic spread among passengers before a group of women stepped forward to manage the situation.
Despite the intense bleeding and lack of medical facilities, the women continued their efforts without hesitation. Other female passengers also joined in, offering support and assistance to ensure the safety of both mother and child.
“Despite the critical condition and heavy bleeding, the women did not give up. Their collective effort ensured a normal delivery inside the train,” said Kishan, a Mangaluru resident who was travelling to Bengaluru and witnessed the incident.
The railway authorities are expected to review emergency response mechanisms on trains to better handle such critical situations in the future.
