Karnataka faces a double weather threat as coastal districts battle heat wave conditions while thunderstorm rain is expected across North Karnataka and several interior regions

Bengaluru: Karnataka is witnessing a dramatic weather split today, with severe heat wave conditions tightening their grip over the coastal districts. At the same time, thunderstorm activity is expected in parts of North Karnataka and interior regions. The India Meteorological Department has warned residents to stay cautious as temperatures continue to rise sharply across the state.

From Bengaluru to the coastal belt, soaring temperatures have already caused discomfort, while forecasts suggest some districts could soon approach 45°C in the coming days.

Heat Wave Hits Coastal Karnataka
The worst heat stress is being reported in the coastal districts of Udupi, Uttara Kannada and Dakshina Kannada, where authorities have issued a Heat Wave Alert.

Residents in these regions are already struggling under intense sunshine and humidity, creating dangerous daytime conditions. Weather officials said similar hot weather may continue for the next five days.
At the same time, some coastal pockets may also witness gusty winds and isolated thunder showers.
Thunderstorm Rain Likely in North Karnataka
Even as coastal Karnataka burns, several northern districts are likely to receive rain accompanied by thunder and lightning.

The forecast includes Belagavi, Dharwad, Haveri, Gadag, Kalaburagi and Yadgir.
Officials said wind speeds may touch 30 to 40 kmph in some areas during storm activity.

Rain Forecast for South Interior Karnataka Too
Southern interior districts, including Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kodagu, Mysuru and Chamarajanagar, are also expected to receive moderate showers with thunder and lightning. Other regions may continue to experience dry and hot weather.
Health officials have urged people to avoid unnecessary travel between 10 AM and 5 PM, when temperatures are most intense.
Direct sun exposure during peak afternoon hours can trigger dehydration and heat stroke rapidly.
