Karnataka University Dharwad to host 75th Annual Convocation at Gandhi Bhavan, over 4,000 PG and 24,000 UG degrees to be conferred along with 270 awards


Dharwad: Karnataka University Dharwad is set to host its 75th Annual Convocation on April 23 at 11:00 AM at Gandhi Bhavan, Vice Chancellor A.M. Khan announced during a press conference.


The prestigious event will be presided over by Thawar Chand Gehlot, while former ISRO Chairman A.S. Kirankumar will deliver the convocation address. Karnataka Higher Education Minister M.C. Sudhakar will attend as the chief guest.


270 Awards, Over 100 Gold Medals to Be Presented

A total of 270 awards will be conferred during the convocation ceremony, reflecting academic excellence across disciplines.

  1. 113 students will receive gold medals
  2. 57 students will be awarded prizes
  3. 78 students will receive scholarships
  4. 69 students will be recognised with ranks

These awards highlight the university’s commitment to academic merit and student achievement.

252 PhD Degrees to Be Conferred

In a significant academic milestone, 252 candidates from streams including Arts, Commerce, Social Sciences, Science and Technology, Law, Management, and Education will be awarded doctoral degrees.

Among them:

  1. 172 are men
  2. 80 are women

This reflects a diverse and growing research ecosystem within the university.


Thousands to Receive UG and PG Degrees

The convocation will also witness the awarding of degrees to thousands of students:

  • 4,129 postgraduate students (93.73%) will receive degrees
  • 24,030 undergraduate students (81.23%) will be conferred degrees
  • 69 students will receive postgraduate diploma certificates

Degrees will be awarded both in person and in absentia, ensuring inclusion of all eligible candidates.

Legacy of Academic Excellence Continues

The university has so far awarded 117 honorary doctorates, underscoring its legacy of recognising contributions to various fields.

“Karnataka University has a vast alumni network of lakhs of students, contributing across sectors,” Vice Chancellor A.M. Khan noted.

The press conference was attended by Registrar Shankar Vanikyal, Valuation Registrar Nijalingappa Mattihal, and other senior faculty members including Sanjay Kumar Malagatti and academic staff.
