Youth Congress leader Mohammed Haris Nalapad claims ED action targeted him and his brother, alleges attempt to block father N.A. Haris’ ministerial prospects
Bengaluru: Amid political controversy surrounding a recent Enforcement Directorate (ED) raid, Mohammed Haris Nalapad has claimed that the कार्रवाई was personally targeted at him and his brother, and not linked to his father, senior Congress leader N.A. Haris.
Responding to the search operation, Nalapad alleged that the raid was “politically motivated” and aimed at preventing his father from securing a ministerial berth.
“Raid Was Targeted at Us, Not My Father”
Nalapad clarified that officials from the Enforcement Directorate visited the family residence only because he and his brother, Umar Haris Nalapad, reside there.
“Our father has nothing to do with this case. The raid was carried out because we are his children and live in that house,” he said.
He further questioned the timing of the action, pointing out that the ECIR was registered in 2021, but the raid was conducted only in 2026.
“If someone commits a crime, do authorities wait for five to six years to search for evidence?” Nalapad asked.
Allegation of Political Motive, BJP Targeted
Nalapad alleged that the move was orchestrated to damage his father’s political prospects and accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of targeting his family.
He claimed that earlier statements in the Assembly and findings from investigations had not established wrongdoing in the alleged Bitcoin-related case, yet action was now being taken.
21-Hour Search, Limited Seizure Claimed
Providing details of the raid, Nalapad said the search operation lasted around 21 hours, with approximately 14 ED officials involved.
He asserted that officials seized only two mobile phones from the residence and claimed that “not even a single penny” was recovered during the operation.
Emotional Statement on Personal Struggles
On a personal note, Nalapad made an emotional remark, stating:
“I have never been a good son. I have always done wrong things to my parents.”
He added that he is now working as Youth Congress President to rebuild his image and bring pride to his family, but expressed distress that repeated allegations and cases continue to target them.
Political Timing Raises Questions
Nalapad reiterated that the timing of the raid appeared deliberate, suggesting it coincided with potential political developments concerning his father.
The ED has not yet issued a detailed public response regarding the allegations made by Nalapad.
