Rising temperatures and heatwave alerts turned deadly in Karnataka after a 20-year-old youth collapsed and died in Bidar. Authorities urged people to avoid stepping out during peak afternoon hours
Bidar: As scorching summer temperatures continue to grip Karnataka, the state has reported its first suspected heatstroke death of the season after a 20-year-old youth collapsed in Bidar district and died on the spot.
The incident occurred near Kamalnagar town in Bidar, where officials have already issued warnings over severe heat conditions. Doctors and authorities have advised the public to avoid unnecessary outdoor movement between 10 AM and 5 PM as temperatures continue to soar.
The victim has been identified as Mohammad Sameer Layik Ahmad (20), a native of Uttar Pradesh who was working at a salon in Kamalnagar.
Youth Complained of Dizziness Before Collapse
According to local reports, Bidar district has witnessed a sharp rise in temperature over the past several days, making outdoor movement extremely difficult.
On the day of the incident, Sameer had reportedly complained of dizziness and discomfort due to the intense heat. He is said to have stopped near a local mechanic shop, drank water, and rested for some time.
However, while later travelling toward Diggi village on National Highway-50, the young man suddenly collapsed on the road.
Locals rushed to help him immediately, but he was declared dead at the spot.
“Post-mortem findings will confirm the exact cause of death,” police officials said.
Heatwave Alert Across Karnataka
Large parts of Karnataka, especially North Karnataka and coastal regions, have been experiencing harsh summer weather, with temperatures reportedly nearing 45 degrees Celsius in some areas.
Authorities have issued a heatwave alert, asking residents to stay indoors during the afternoon hours, remain hydrated, and take precautions against heat exhaustion and sunstroke.
Police Investigation Underway
A case has been registered at Kamalnagar Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
Officials have once again appealed to citizens not to step outside unnecessarily during peak heat hours and to seek immediate medical attention if symptoms such as dizziness, weakness, or fainting occur.
