Fresh Israeli strikes and Hezbollah attacks intensify tensions in southern Lebanon, civilian casualties rise as truce faces collapse

Beirut: Tensions between Hezbollah and Israel escalated sharply on Monday after an Israeli drone strike targeted Qleileh in southern Lebanon, killing one person amid a fragile and rapidly deteriorating ceasefire.

According to local reports, the strike hit an area a few kilometers north of a proposed “buffer zone” that Israel is reportedly seeking to establish along the southern Lebanese border.

14 Killed in Sunday Strikes as Violence Intensifies
The escalation follows a deadly Sunday in which Israeli airstrikes and artillery attacks killed at least 14 people, including two children and two women, as confirmed by Lebanon’s Health Ministry. At least 37 others were injured in what has been described as one of the most intense waves of attacks in recent days.

Israeli military operations reportedly targeted 16 villages in southern Lebanon, with repeated air raids and drone strikes hitting multiple locations. An additional five villages came under heavy artillery shelling, further deepening civilian distress in the conflict-hit region.

Air Raid Sirens Trigger Panic in Northern Israel
In northern Israel, air raid sirens sounded early Monday morning following reports of a potential aerial threat. The Israeli army stated that a “suspicious device” launched from Lebanon was briefly tracked before contact was lost. No injuries were reported, though alerts were also issued over concerns of falling debris from interception attempts.

A second alert was later dismissed as a false alarm. Hezbollah has not officially claimed any attacks since Monday morning.

Overnight Strikes and Cross-Border Fire Continue
Overnight, Israeli artillery reportedly struck areas in Arnoun (Nabatieh district), while air raids targeted wooded zones near Ali al-Taher and regions between Siddiqine and Jabal al-Botom in the Sour district. A demolition operation was also reported in Khiam (Marjayoun district), indicating sustained military activity across multiple fronts.

Hezbollah Confirms Attacks, Israeli Soldier Killed
On Sunday, Hezbollah claimed responsibility for five offensive operations, including a late-night strike targeting Israeli military personnel near Tall al-Nahas hill, on the outskirts of Kfar Kila. The group stated it used a guided missile in the attack.

The Israeli army confirmed that one of its soldiers was killed in these operations. Hezbollah had earlier also claimed strikes on Taybeh, including the use of a kamikaze drone during evacuation efforts following a prior attack.

“The situation reflects escalating violations and a fragile ceasefire that risks total collapse if hostilities continue,” observers noted amid rising tensions.

Ceasefire Under Threat as Mutual Accusations Grow
The latest developments underscore growing instability along the Israel-Lebanon border, with both sides accusing each other of violating the ceasefire agreement. The ongoing exchange of fire and rising casualties have heightened fears of a broader regional escalation.

With civilian areas increasingly affected and military actions intensifying, international observers are closely monitoring the situation, urging restraint to prevent further loss of life.
