Patna murder solved as goat hair stuck to blanket leads police to accused; 10-year-old girl was lured and killed, confession reveals chilling details
Patna: Patna Police cracked the brutal murder case of a 10-year-old girl using an unlikely clue, goat hair found stuck to the blanket in which the victim’s body was wrapped. The sensational case, which had sparked outrage across the city, has led to the arrest of the accused, identified as Ranjit.
Crime Scene Discovery Triggers Massive Outrage
The body of the minor girl was discovered on April 23, dumped near a garbage heap in a narrow lane close to Jalla Mahavir Temple under the Bypass police station limits. The child had reportedly stepped out of her home to buy milk but never returned, triggering panic among family members and residents.
The gruesome recovery of the body wrapped in a blanket intensified public anger, with locals demanding swift justice and mounting pressure on authorities.
Goat Hair Becomes Key Breakthrough in Investigation
During the forensic inspection, investigators noticed fine goat hair strands stuck to the blanket, a detail that proved crucial. Based on this, police deduced that the suspect could be someone living nearby who owned goats.
“Even the smallest clue can unravel the biggest crimes. The goat hair found on the blanket became the turning point in solving this case,” said SSP Kartikeya K. Sharma.
Accused Found Hiding in Locked Room
Acting on suspicion, police began combing the locality and spotted a house with multiple goats tied outside. The room appeared locked from the outside, raising suspicion. When officers broke open the lock, they found Ranjit hiding inside.
In a desperate attempt to evade arrest, the accused had locked the door externally and stayed inside without a fan, sweating profusely while closely monitoring police movements through a window.
Confession Reveals Horrific Details of Murder
During interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime. He admitted that he had lured the girl into his room with malicious intent. When the child started screaming, he attacked her with a grinding stone, killing her on the spot.
Body Dumped After Fear of Police Patrol
The accused reportedly kept the body hidden under his bed throughout the day. Later, around 2 a.m., he wrapped the body in a blanket and attempted to dispose of it in a nearby pond. However, upon spotting a police patrol vehicle, he panicked and abandoned the body near a roadside garbage dump before fleeing.
Police have confirmed that the accused is now in custody, and further legal proceedings are underway.
