Son Anand Bhosle performs last rites at Shivaji Park as celebrities, leaders and fans gather to honour the ‘Queen of Melody’
Mumbai: Legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle was cremated with full state honours on Monday evening at Shivaji Park Crematorium, marking the end of an era in Indian music. The final rites were performed at 5:18 PM, with her son Anand Bhosle lighting the funeral pyre.
The 92-year-old icon, a recipient of the Padma Vibhushan, passed away on April 12 at Breach Candy Hospital due to multi-organ failure, after being admitted with a chest infection and fatigue.

Full State Honours, Massive Public Turnout
Asha Bhosle was accorded full state honours, reflecting her unparalleled contribution to Indian music. Earlier in the day, her mortal remains were kept for public darshan at her residence in Lower Parel, where thousands of fans gathered to pay their respects.
The funeral procession later moved to Shivaji Park, where an outpouring of grief and respect was witnessed from across the film, music and political fraternity.
Celebrities, Leaders Pay Final Tribute
Prominent personalities, including Aamir Khan, Vicky Kaushal, Ranveer Singh, Vidya Balan and Javed Akhtar, were present to offer their last respects.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also paid homage, underscoring the singer’s national stature and cultural impact.
In a poignant tribute, singers like Shaan and Anup Jalota sang her iconic songs at the crematorium, creating an emotional farewell.

A Musical Journey That Defined Generations
Born on September 8, 1933, in Sangli, Maharashtra, Asha Bhosle was the daughter of Dinanath Mangeshkar and the younger sister of Lata Mangeshkar. She began her musical journey at a young age, recording her first song for a Marathi film in 1943 and making her Bollywood debut in 1948.
Over a career spanning more than seven decades, she recorded over 12,000 songs in more than 20 languages, delivering timeless hits like Dum Maro Dum, Yeh Mera Dil, and Ramaiya Vastavaiya.
