Gadag: A tragic road accident in Karnataka’s Gadag district claimed the lives of two people and left eight others seriously injured after a goods vehicle rammed into a tree near Harthi village on Thursday. The victims were reportedly returning after attending a religious procession when the vehicle lost control.

Details of the Fatal Crash
According to police sources, the accident occurred in Harthi village of Gadag taluk when a goods vehicle carrying ten villagers collided with a roadside tree. The impact of the crash was severe, leading to two deaths on the spot and leaving several others with critical injuries.

The deceased have been identified as Muthappa Sutageri (35) and Ningappa Yalavatti (36), both residents of Hirekoppa village in Gadag taluk.

Injured Shifted to KIMS Hubballi
Eight others who sustained serious injuries in the accident were immediately rushed for medical assistance. Due to the severity of their condition, they were referred to the Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) Hospital in Hubballi for advanced treatment.

Local authorities confirmed that all the victims involved in the accident were residents of Hirekoppa village.

Returning From Religious Procession
Preliminary reports suggest that ten villagers had travelled to Gojanur to witness the Kamanna religious procession. While they were returning from Gojanur to Hirekoppa, the vehicle reportedly lost control and crashed into a tree, resulting in the fatal incident.

Suspected Driver Negligence
Initial investigation indicates that the accident may have been caused due to the driver’s negligence or loss of control, though officials are continuing to examine the exact circumstances behind the crash.

Police personnel visited the accident site soon after the incident and carried out an inspection. A case has been registered at Gadag Rural Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
“Two people died on the spot while eight others were injured in the crash. The injured have been shifted to Hubballi for treatment,” a police official said during the preliminary investigation.
