Hubballi: A tragic incident has been reported from Hubballi, where two college students drowned after entering a pond to cool off amid rising summer temperatures.

The deceased have been identified as Samarth and Harish, both aged 17 and residents of Renuka Nagar in Byridevarakoppa. The two close friends were studying in the commerce department at a government undergraduate college near Gopanakoppa and had recently completed their First PUC examinations.

According to reports, the students went to swim in a pond near the under-construction RNS Golf Course during the afternoon as the heat intensified in the region.

Students Failed to Return Home

Family members grew worried after the boys failed to return home by evening. Workers at the construction site later noticed the students struggling in the water and immediately alerted the police.

However, by the time authorities reached the spot, the two youths had already drowned.

Initial information suggests that neither of the students knew how to swim properly, but they still entered the pond in an attempt to cool off from the intense heat.

Families Left in Shock

The untimely deaths of the teenagers have left their families and relatives devastated. Both boys lived in neighbouring houses and were known to be close friends.

Their parents, who considered them the main support of the family’s future, are reportedly inconsolable after the tragic loss.

Police Case Registered

A case has been registered at Navanagar Police Station, and further investigation into the incident is underway.

Authorities have urged parents to keep a close watch on children and teenagers during the summer season, warning that swimming in ponds, lakes, or water bodies without safety measures can lead to fatal accidents.
