Students appearing for SSLC exams from March 18 to April 2 can travel free on BMTC buses by showing their hall ticket; extra buses to be deployed if needed
Bengaluru: In a major relief for students appearing for the upcoming SSLC examinations, the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has announced free bus travel for students across Bengaluru during the examination period.
The facility will be available for students appearing in the SSLC Examination, which is scheduled to be conducted from March 18 to April 2, 2026. The initiative aims to ensure that students can travel conveniently to their examination centres without worrying about transportation expenses.
BMTC officials stated that the move has been introduced keeping students’ welfare and convenience in mind, especially since many candidates have examination centres located in schools away from their residential areas.
Free Travel Facility During Exam Days
Under the special arrangement, students will be allowed to travel free of cost on BMTC buses on the days of their examinations between March 18 and April 2.
Authorities clarified that the facility will be applicable only on the examination days during this period and is designed to support students commuting from their homes to their respective exam centres and back.
This decision is expected to benefit thousands of SSLC candidates across Bengaluru, easing travel concerns during one of the most crucial academic stages.
Hall Ticket to Serve as Travel Pass
Students will not be required to purchase a bus ticket during the exam period. Instead, they can simply show their SSLC hall ticket to the bus conductor to avail the free travel facility.
BMTC officials explained that the hall ticket itself will act as a valid travel pass, allowing students to travel from their residence to the examination centre and return after the exam.
This measure has been introduced to simplify the process and avoid delays for students during travel.
Facility Applicable Only on Regular BMTC Services
The transport authority clarified that the free travel facility will be available only on regular BMTC bus services.
However, the benefit will not apply to premium or superfast services such as the “Vajra” or other fast-track services, which operate under different fare structures.
Students are therefore advised to use standard BMTC buses running on regular routes to avail the facility.
Special Arrangements by BMTC for Student Convenience
To ensure smooth transportation during the examination period, BMTC has also introduced several operational measures.
Mandatory Bus Operations on Exam Routes
BMTC authorities have directed officials to ensure that all scheduled bus trips operating on routes connecting examination centres are run without interruption on exam days.
Deployment of Additional Buses if Required
Transport officials have also confirmed that additional buses will be deployed if necessary to manage student crowding on specific routes.
If a large number of students are expected on certain routes, extra services will be introduced to avoid overcrowding and delays.
Request Stops Near Examination Centres
BMTC has also issued strict instructions to bus drivers and conductors to provide request stops near examination centres if students or their parents ask for it.
Officials said the decision was taken because SSLC exam centres are located in different schools across the city, and the free travel facility would help ensure that students do not face transportation challenges during the examination period.
Education and transport authorities believe the initiative will support students in reaching their exam centres on time and reduce stress during the important examination schedule.
